Plain vanilla but serving community

Connecting suburb with local school and services

This bridge in Wollongong may look plain vanilla, with a simple hot-dipped galvanized finish, but it is serving the local community well.

Linking the suburb of Figtree with the local high school, the 24-metre Landmark steel truss bridge (Murray Series) replaced an aging bridge, thought to be over 50 years old, that crossed American Creek in the Wollongong suburb. Figtree private hospital and the local Anglican Church are also in the same area.

Landmark supplied and installed the bridge and demolished and removed the previous bridge. The new bridge was positioned slightly more to the east and designed to 5kPa load and 1.9m/sec flood load.

The bridge was delivered in kit-form, assembled by Landmark Installations, and then lifted into place by a crane.
