Broome Jetty Project

Customer: Shire of Broome, WA
Designer: Landmark Products
Product: Four modified King Cantilever Shelters and four Flinders Benches
Location: Broome Jetty, Town Beach, Broome WA

Background

Town Beach is a popular location in Broome for locals and tourists.

The Town Beach Project included a range of developments to revitalise the region, such as the construction of a 110-metre long and four-metre wide jetty, which was completed in August last year.

The jetty provides a new option for land-based fishing, as well as a scenic walkway into Roebuck Bay for non-fishers.

Solution

Landmark Products designed and manufactured four Modified King Cantilever Shelters and four Flinders Benches that were installed along the jetty.

Yawuru and Karrijari woman from Broome, Martha Lee, created special artwork featuring Nganarr (dugongs), Birndany (stingrays), Gurlbil (turtles) and Walga Walga (salmon) for the shelter roof panels, which gives a nod to the local inhabitants of the area while providing a touch of beauty.

The project was handed over the Shire of Broome in August 2021.

Material features of the King Shelters

  • 2-pack painted steel columns and rafters
  • Aluminium perforated mesh artwork roof panels

Material features of the Flinders Benches

  • 2-pack painted steel frames encompassing Wood Plastic Composites (WPC) bench slats, which is a sustainable product manufactured from a blend of wood products and plastics

    Testimonials

“The King Shelter is one of our signature products and the addition of the perforated aluminium roof sheeting for the Broome Jetty project adds a beautiful touch. The screens help integrate the shelter seamlessly into the surrounding environment.

“Because Broome is in a cyclonic zone, the design team worked closely with our engineers to come up with an appropriate solution.”
