FAQ

Product Range
Q. How do I obtain printed material on your products?
A. The Landmark website has been optimised to enable you to print detailed information directly from the site wherever you see a printable pdf icon. We also publish Product Specification sheets and other promotional material which can be mailed to you upon request. Alternatively, a friendly Landmark representative can contact you in person with support or information that you may need.
Q. What if I can't find what we're looking amongst your standard range of kits?
A. We'll make it for you. If what you need can be safely engineered and built in our factory, we can almost certainly help you create what you're looking for. It may be that we've already produced something very similar in the past, or we can adapt an existing design, or design a unique structure especially for you. You can browse through our photo galleries, showing wide ranges of standard and custom projects.
Q. Is there a choice of construction materials?
A. Yes, our standard materials specifications can be modified to suit your particular requirements. Our standard timber components are LOSP treated, machine finished Hoop Pine (a marine timber species from Queensland plantations); steel shelter components are powder coated hot dipped galvanised steel; steel bridge components are pre-treated with corrosion retardants and generally painted in your choice of colour; fastenings are galvanised and vandal resistant; and standard roofing and guttering components are colorbond steel.

If it is your wish we can offer a wide choice of options including hardwood for pine, all steel or steel posts only construction, all or part aluminium construction, and stainless steel fixings for severe corrosion locations as well as various colour, cladding, accessories, roofing and finishing options. Simply tell us what you're looking for, and we'll happily oblige!
Q. Are Landmark designs certified, and to what standard?
A. Yes, all Landmark structures are certified by our professional engineers. Our kits are designed to comply with all local government building codes; to meet or exceed AS 1720.1 SAA Timber Structures Code (Pt 1) or AS 4100 SAA Steel Structures Code or AS 1170.1 SAA Loading Code (Pt 1); and to exceed Minimum Wind Classification W41 (W60 is available on request).
Q. Is it possible for Landmark to adapt or modify an existing product design to better suit my purpose?
A. Yes, we frequently modify or adapt existing designs to suit the specific requirements of customers. Good examples are a small sports ground rest room adapted from a standard shelter design, popular decorative bandstands developed from a standard gazebo design, and an attractive equipment storage shed adapted from a standard open-sided shelter.
Q. Can Landmark design and produce structures for one-off projects?
A. Yes, if what you need can be safely engineered from timber, or timber-and-steel, or aluminium, and factory built, we can almost certainly create for you what you're looking for. It may be that we've already produced something very similar in the past, or we can adapt an existing design, or design a new structure especially for you.
Q. What assurance can Landmark give that my project will go together smoothly and provide us with years of service?
A. You have the assurance that we've built our twenty + year business reputation on the idea that we exist to provide a useful and effective service for you. Our factory and customer service operates to a carefully refined system which we've developed especially to enhance the quality and efficiency of everything we produce and do. Landmark is an Approved Government Supplier (Queensland Government Cert.2889), and we operate under Quality Assurance Standard AS/NZS 9001:1994

Materials and Finishes
Q. What are the specifications for the Hoop Pine used in fabricating your products?
A.  We use premium quality machined plantation Hoop Pine, stabilised  and treated with safe LOSP preservative to Hazard level 3.
Q. What is LOSP treatment?
A. Light Organic Solvent Preservatives are used for structures subject to moist environments where timber is likely to experience fungal decay. It is recommended that all treated timber is painted or stained. LOSP treated timber can be painted once the treatment has dried. The treatment is not corrosive to metals. LOSP is suitable for applications such as joinery, where dimensional-stability is important.
Q. What are the specifications for the Hardwood used in fabricating your products?
A. We use exclusively select grade, sustainably harvested Western Queensland Hardwood (Spotted Gum or similar), ACQ treated to Hazard Level 3. Hardwood is Stress grade F14 or better (the majority being F17)
Q. What is ACQ treatment?
A. Ammoniacal Copper Quaternary is vaunted for its greater safety of storage and application than CCA, yet with similar performance ability. Ammoniacal Copper Quaternary (Type B) wood preservative is formulated with copper oxide and the Quaternary Ammonium compound, didecyldimethyl-ammoniumchloride.
Q. What stain colours are available for your timber components?
A. All timber componenents are factory stained with our standard Landmark Timbertone oil based stain. Others stain colours are available upon request. (For details see our "Colour and Finish Options" in the "Tools" section of this site)
Q. Can your timber components be painted instead of stained?
A. Timber components can be supplied with a water based paint finish. We apply two coats of quality Wattyl paint in our factory prior to despatch. Due to the likelihood of damage during transport and installation, we supply a small quantity of paint for touch up on site. The range of available colours can be viewed in "Colours and finishes" area of this site under the "Tools" option.
Q. Due to vandalism concerns I need to install steel shelters next to the ocean. What can I do to prevent corrosion?

A. Powder coated, hot-dip galvanised steel is considered an unsuitable finish for highly corrosive environments. In these environments we strongly recommend the use of timber (either hoop pine or hardwood) and stainless steel hardware. If this is not possible all hot-dip galvanised steel surfaces should at least be finished with a high quality two pack epoxy paint system, and subject to a rigorous maintenance schedule. Failure to do this in highly corrosive marine environments may void the Landmark Products Ltd Structural Integrity Warranty

Purchasing and Delivery
Q. What do Landmark need to know about my project?
A. There are many environmental issues which we need to know about before we can proceed.
You need to accurately inform us with these details otherwise the product selected may not be suitable for your project.
Any structures installed in close proximity to the ocean or in a corrosive environment will be susceptible to rust. Galvanizing and powder coating provide limited protection.
The site’s profile and positioning are important. You need to inform us about the shape of the land, accessibility, proximity to, and details of water bodies and expected weather conditions.
Make sure you inform us if the delivery location is different to where your structureis to be installed.
All these issues contribute heavily to the product choice. We can meet with you on site to establish the requirements of your job. Landmark is committed to offering the best possible advice and assistance throughout the process.
Q. I'd like someone to physically meet with me to help me plan my project. Is this part of the Landmark service?
A. We're pleased to meet with you in person if it's possible and practical to do so. We have highly experienced Landmark representatives in every State and Territory in Australia, and New Zealand, ready and available to discuss your project and to help you with your planning and costing.
Q. Is it possible for buyers outside Australia to purchase Landmark products?
A. Yes, we frequently handle enquiries from all over the world, and provided a commercial transaction can be achieved, we're prepared to supply any legitimate purchaser, anywhere. Please note however, if you're enquiring from somewhere other than Australia, New Zealand or the Pacific Region, you'll need to take logistics into account. For example, the distances involved will almost certainly add significantly to your purchase price.
Q. I'll need proper drawings and specifications to get my project approved. Are these available?
A. Yes, every purchased Landmark project is accompanied by full relevant documentation.
Q. I'll need a written quote in advance. How should I go about obtaining one?
A. You can initiate contact by simply registering through this web site, or if you prefer you can write, phone or fax, or email us from our Contact page. Once we have a better idea of the scope of your requirements we'll work with you through a process of initial designs and costings to the point where we can eventually "firm up" on a budget.
Q. What assurance is there that the price Landmark gives me won't be exceeded?
A. We normally guarantee that prices are all-inclusive and firmly-fixed for 30 days once the budget has been worked through and our quotation offered.
Q. Installation in remote or difficult sites?
A. No problems. Our factory built structures are perfect for remote installations, and we have comprehensively solved difficult site locations as diverse as the extremely hot and remote tip of Cape York peninsula, to wet and environmentally sensitivite "minimal disturbance" steep-slope rainforest park sites. Experience is almost everything in such situations, and over the years we've designed, produced and delivered thousands of successful projects, all over Australia and the Pacific. We're confident that our products and methods offer you your best opportunity for a trouble-free installation in the most difficult or remote-locations you're likely to find anywhere.

Installation and Construction
Q. Unskilled or semi-skilled labour to help me construct my project?
A. No problem. Landmark structures come pre-cut, pre-drilled and partly assembled with comprehensive installation instructions and have been especially designed for erection by semi-skilled workers with competent supervision.
Q. I need someone else to handle the installation. Can Landmark provide this service?
A. Yes, for an additional prearranged fee we can arrange to have any of our products professionally installed for you. For larger projects we can arrange for a suitably experienced supervisor to oversee your labour force.
Q. What assistance can I expect from Landmark in regard to obtaining building approvals?
A. Wherever you're located, Landmark structures come complete with all the documents you'll need to obtain the building approvals relevant to your chosen site.

Maintenance
Q. What sort of life can we expect from the timber components used in Landmark kits?
A. Landmark's products are designed to serve and last till after most of us are long gone! Standard timber components are LOSP treated, and are usually pre-coated in the factory with an additional timber-preservative stain. The standard LOSP treatment complies with AS 1604, and has proven, excellent performance in resisting fungal and insect attack. Nevertheless as with all exposed timber products, a periodic application of a quality paint, stain or timber preservative is necessary to retard the long-term effects of weathering. Provided our produts are periodically inspected, treated for deterioration and properly maintained, you can expect them to retain their good appearance and provide many years of useful service.
Q. What preservative treatment have the metal components received, and how do I maintain them?
A. Standard steel shelter components are either stainless steel or hot-dipped galvanised, and in addition can be powdercoated in your choice of colour. Larger steel bridge components are generally pre-treated with corrosion retardants and painted. We take every precaution during manufacture and installation and you can expect Landmark structures to retain their good appearance and provide many years of useful service with a minimal regime of periodic inspection and prompt treatment for damage or deterioration.
Q. Can Landmark provide routine inspections by a qualified person?
A. Yes we can. Like all other public buildings, Landmark structures should be periodically inspected for defects and the effects of weather or deliberate damage. If required, Landmark can provide routine inspection and reporting by arrangement.
Q. My project requires picnic tables, barbeques and a safety barrier. Can Landmark help me with these?
A. Yes. With the experience of thousands of public shelters behind us, we've developed an excellent range of seating and finishing accessories especially designed to compliment and enhance the appearance and amenity of our structures. All you need do is discuss your ideas with one of our project sales consultants.
Q. Structures associated with my project will be subjected to abuse by vandals. What can Landmark do to counteract this?
A. We'll help you design your project to suit its purpose and environment. Our products are available in your choice of timber (treated pine or hardwood), timber-and-steel and all-steel or aluminium construction, and all exposed fittings are vandal-resistant. Even virtually indestructible all-steel Landmark kits can be made to appear highly attractive through the careful selection of powder-coat or other colour finishes.
